The Loomis Family has been in business since 1905. The family business was founded by E.C. Loomis, the great-grandfather of Dan Loomis (the current president of Loomis Tank Centers). E.C. started in business as a grain and hay broker on the central coast of California in the small town of Arroyo Grande. His sons later joined the business, creating E.C. Loomis & Sons Feed.
In 1935, they built a feed mill in San Luis Obispo and added several retail locations. Ivan, one of E.C.'s sons, had two boys: Richard (Dan's father) and John. They also joined the family business.
In 1952, Richard started Loomix liquid feed supplements. His operations quickly branched out into 21 states and Canada. In the early 1960s, the Loomis fiberglass division was created in order to manufacture the troughs used in the Loomix feeding process. Later, fiberglass septic tanks were also manufactured. This operation, along with the management of the feed stores, was handled by John Loomis.
Dan Loomis joined Loomix, Inc. in 1981, starting in service and, later, moving up to regional sales manager. He stayed with Loomix until the business was sold in 1991. At that time, Dan purchased the Loomis fiberglass division, which, by then, had started to distribute polyethylene water and chemical storage tanks. The new company was named Loomis Tank Centers, which has nine retail locations, over 80 distributors, and does business nationwide.
Dan lives in Arroyo Grande with his wife Debbie. Dan's step son Mark Brokaw joined the company in 2004. Mark serves as Chief Financial Officer for the company. Dan and Debbie's son Matt joined the company in 2011 as a sales and service representative. Daughter Rachel is attending San Diego State University and majoring in speech therapy.
